Hull City manager Liam Rosenior has revealed that the club’s focus for the upcoming January transfer window is on bringing in high-quality players rather than making numerous signings. Following their 4-1 victory against Rotherham United, the Tigers currently hold the 6th position in the Championship table.
In an interview with BBC Humberside Sport, Rosenior shared insights into the team’s transfer strategy, emphasizing a more measured approach compared to previous years. He stated, “We’ve got shortlists in the positions that we want. We’re working through them, seeing what is realistic, seeing who is interested. We’re comfortable, it feels relaxed compared to last year.”
The manager outlined the team’s clear objectives, emphasizing the importance of quality over quantity. Rosenior assured fans that they are not looking to make a significant influx of new players, but rather focus on making strategic additions that enhance the squad’s overall quality. He explained, “Tweaks only. That is all that is needed. If fans think we’re going to bring in four or five players in January, it’s not going to happen. We want to excite the fans with the quality of player we do bring in.”
Hull City has enjoyed a successful start to the season, currently standing in a strong position to secure a spot in the top six. The team’s success can be attributed in part to Rosenior’s influence, as he has implemented his distinctive style of play.
Looking ahead, the manager hinted at the possibility of outgoing players, such as Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, Greg Docherty, and Harry Vaughan (on loan), particularly if suitable acquisitions are made in their respective positions. Rosenior identified the need for an additional forward to provide competition and cover for key players like Liam Delap and Aaron Connolly.
Furthermore, the potential departure of key midfielders Jean Michael Seri and Adama Traore to the Africa Cup of Nations has highlighted the necessity for reinforcements in the central midfield position. Another area of consideration is the addition of a winger for increased competition and depth, with Rosenior expressing interest in Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi during the summer.
As Hull City prepares for their upcoming fixture against Watford, Rosenior’s strategic and quality-focused approach to the January transfer window sets the tone for the club’s aspirations for the rest of the season.
