The Houston Texans have exceeded expectations this NFL season with a notable 6-5 record, showcasing an impressive performance in their rebuilding process. The standout performances of rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and fellow newcomer wide receiver Tank Dell have contributed to the team’s success. However, after a narrow loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, Dell’s availability for the upcoming game against the Denver Broncos is uncertain due to a calf injury.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans, providing an update on Dell’s condition, expressed optimism about the wide receiver’s recovery, stating he expects Dell to be “okay” going forward. Despite being a third-round pick in the April draft, Dell has emerged as a key player for the Texans, amassing 47 catches for 709 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 games.
Teaming up with Nico Collins, a third-year wideout with 800 yards and five touchdowns this season, Dell has been instrumental in the team’s success. Previously, the Texans had a challenging 3-13-1 record, leading many to anticipate only marginal improvement in the 2023 season. However, their current standing in eighth place in the AFC suggests a genuine possibility of making the playoffs.

“We’ll see how the week continues to go for Tank. We expect him to be okay.”
It’s still early in Ryans’ head coaching career, but his coachspeak has been quite reliable thus far

Looking beyond the impending match against the Broncos, the Texans have a manageable schedule ahead. The team’s unexpected performance has shifted perceptions, and they seem to be establishing the foundational elements necessary to become a competitive force in the years to come. Despite reaching the postseason only six times since their inception in 2002, the Texans are now positioned as potential contenders.
