Crystal Palace’s goalkeeper, Sam Johnstone, received high praise from BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks after keeping a clean sheet in their 2-0 victory over Burnley. This marked Johnstone’s fifth clean sheet of the season, tying for the most in the Premier League.
Crooks included him in his Team of the Week and commended his outstanding performance, particularly his saves against Luca Koleosho, Josh Brownhill, and Jay Rodriguez. Johnstone’s contributions have been vital to Palace’s defensive success this season. His signing on a free transfer appears to be a wise move, overshadowing the costly acquisition of Dean Henderson, who is currently injured.
While Johnstone’s distribution may not always be perfect, he excels at shot-stopping, which is crucial for the Eagles. Despite recent injury setbacks, Palace is just outside the top 10 in the league, and with the return of key players like Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, they have the potential to climb higher.
If Johnstone maintains his impressive form, he could even contend for the Golden Glove award, particularly under the guidance of defensive manager Roy Hodgson.
