Liam Kinsella believed that Swindon Town displayed excessive deference to Milton Keynes Dons in their 3-2 League Two loss. Kinsella, who made his second league start of the season at Stadium MK, noted that Swindon struggled to find their rhythm.
According to Kinsella, Swindon allowed MK Dons too much possession and permitted them to control the game, resulting in Swindon’s failure to secure a win in their sixth consecutive away match.
Kinsella remarked, “In the first half, I believe we accorded MK Dons too much respect and allowed them to dominate possession, giving them room to advance. We discussed at halftime the need to be more assertive, and we managed that in the first ten minutes, which led to a goal.”
“When we leveled the score, we were in control and needed to capitalize on that momentum by scoring another goal. However, we conceded another goal, which we could have prevented from our perspective. We needed to respond and maintain our momentum.”
He continued, “When you level the game at 1-1, it’s within reach to win, but when they scored a second, we had to regroup and attempt to replicate our second-half performance. When you push for a win, you create opportunities for the counter-attack, and they exploited that.”
Swindon manager Michael Flynn opted for a different formation, using a midfield diamond instead of a 3-5-2, allowing Kinsella to enter the lineup. Kinsella explained, “We utilized the diamond formation today, focusing on movement, width, and ball retention, creating space for attackers in the final third.”
Regarding his role, he said, “I did what was required for the team, putting in a dedicated effort. I must remain patient, seize opportunities when they arise, and perform well. I’ve been waiting patiently all season for my chance, and I got it today, even though it didn’t go as we had hoped as a team.
