San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy might be able to pass the concussion protocol in time to participate in Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. After practicing in a limited capacity on Thursday, Purdy was cleared to engage in full team training on Friday.
While Purdy is officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan explained that he could play if he successfully completes the final step of the concussion protocol on Saturday. Shanahan stated, “That’s the last thing he needs to do. There’s just one step left… He participated fully today; he just needs to pass that step tomorrow.”
For Purdy to be eligible to play on Sunday, he must receive clearance for full contact from a 49ers team physician and undergo an evaluation by an independent neurological consultant. Both the independent neurological consultant and the team physician must concur that Purdy’s concussion has been resolved.
