Watson started the previous game against the Indianapolis Colts but had to be replaced by backup quarterback PJ Walker, which the Browns ultimately won 39-38. Watson has participated in four games this season, with this Sunday’s game marking the third one he will miss.
The uncertainty regarding Watson’s return stems from his ongoing injury, and he has openly stated that he currently doesn’t feel ready to return to the field. He expressed his desire to reach a higher level of fitness and performance to be truly beneficial to the team.
Watson has also rejected the notion that he lacks the motivation to play, emphasizing that his contract with the Browns is fully guaranteed. He dismissed claims of controversy and commotion and reaffirmed his passion for the game and his dedication to playing football.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski explained that the decision to limit Watson’s playing time was made to protect him from further injury.
Watson is concentrating on his rehabilitation and recovery, focusing on what he can control, and expressed uncertainty about the duration of his injury. In the meantime, PJ Walker is expected to take on the role of the starting quarterback for the upcoming game against the Seahawks.
The Browns have a 2-0 record in games featuring Walker, and he has previous experience playing for the Carolina Panthers last season. In one of the games, rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson started as the quarterback in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens.
