Troy Deeney has recently disclosed that Crystal Palace’s No. 19, Will Hughes, is the angriest footballer he has ever encountered.
Deeney, aged 35, made this revelation during an interview on BBC’s The Players Channel.
Will Hughes, aged 28, has gained popularity among Crystal Palace fans due to his aggressive tackling and dedicated performances on the field. Deeney’s statement suggests that much of Hughes’ intensity and determination on the pitch is innate.
During the discussion about the angriest footballers they’ve encountered, Deeney, conversing with Jermain Defoe, mentioned Will Hughes, describing him as “The angriest man you’ve ever met in your life.” Deeney added, “I dunno if it’s because he looks like Caspar the ghost or whatever. He’s so angry. Lovely fella. I think he’s just mad that he’s not fast.”
Deeney and Hughes were former teammates at Watford, where they made 73 appearances together, providing Deeney with first-hand experience of Hughes’ personality and playing style.
Will Hughes has been a vital player at Crystal Palace, and his contribution deserves recognition. Valued at £6 million, he has made five Premier League starts in the current season, nearing his previous season’s total of seven starts. This increase in playing time was due to injuries to key players like Jefferson Lerma and Cheick Doucoure.
