Following Ryan Manning’s suspension, Southampton manager Russell Martin is confident that his team has the ability to manage without him. Manning, who reconnected with Martin this summer after their time together at Swansea City, faced the risk of a one-match suspension due to accumulating four yellow cards prior to the game against Hull City. Unfortunately, he did receive a fifth yellow card during the match, which rules him out for their upcoming game against Preston North End on Wednesday.
This absence is a setback for Southampton since Manning has played a crucial role in their first-team lineup this season, featuring in nearly all their league matches and even making a cameo appearance in the one he didn’t start. His absence is particularly challenging for the team as Juan Larios is also unavailable due to injury.
Furthermore, the departures of some players during the summer transfer window, like Tino Livramento to Newcastle United and loaned-out players Romain Perraud and Thierry Small, have added to the team’s challenges.
In response to Manning’s suspension, Russell Martin acknowledged that they may need to deploy Kyle Walker-Peters on the left, even though his natural position is on the right. Nevertheless, Martin remains confident that his team has the necessary depth and skills to cope effectively without the Irish defender.
