Southampton’s Russell Martin, sends s four-words message as he expressed optimism about Hull City’s trajectory despite a dramatic 2-1 defeat at..

Martin’s team secured all three points at the MKM Stadium on Saturday, with Ryan Fraser scoring the winning goal in the dying moments of a thrilling contest in East Yorkshire.

The Saints took an early lead, with Will Smallbone converting Kyle Walker-Peter’s precise cross in the 20th minute. However, Liam Delap quickly equalized for the home side just five minutes later.

Hull City had several opportunities and could have taken the lead in the second half when Tyler Morton set up Delap, but the on-loan Manchester City striker failed to capitalize. It was ultimately Fraser who ended Hull’s unbeaten home record in a sensational fashion.

Speaking about the match, Martin said, “Playing away from home against a team in good form, this club is in a positive place, and I’m thrilled. While we didn’t get everything right in the first half, we posed a significant challenge for them. It was an excellent game, with both teams going head-to-head, and we made some adjustments after halftime.”

He added, “However, the tactics alone wouldn’t have mattered if our players’ mentality wasn’t right, but it was. Our second-half performance was outstanding. Hull began to tire, and our relentless approach paid off. When you attack as much as we did, there are bound to be gaps, and our players handled that situation brilliantly. I believe we deserved the victory. Perhaps we were too cautious in the first half, but our second-half performance was exceptional.”

Martin continued, “We created numerous opportunities in the second half, and as an away performance, I’m extremely satisfied. The statistics align with how I perceived the game. It will serve as a valuable learning experience for our players and for me. Our initial approach may not have been ideal, possibly showing too much respect or being overly cautious. However, it’s evident that this team is evolving together, and that’s a positive development to witness.”
