In preparation for their match against Leyton Orient, Neill Collins has sought valuable insights from experienced defender Jamie McCart. McCart, who recently joined Barnsley on a season-long loan from Rotherham United during the summer transfer window, spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Leyton Orient, where they secured the League Two title in the 2022-23 season.
Although Leyton Orient had a relatively quiet start to the current campaign, they have won three of their last four league matches. Nevertheless, they are set to face a Barnsley side that is striving for an impressive sixth consecutive victory in their away games.
Head coach Collins remarked, “Jamie has firsthand experience with them, and I’ve had conversations with him to gain insights into their playing style and key priorities. While much of this may be observable through watching matches, it’s always beneficial to understand the players’ perspectives and know what to anticipate. This knowledge proves helpful.”
Barnsley’s performance on the road ranks as the best in the entire EFL, not just within League One, and they will have the support of a substantial traveling fan base of 1,200 in East London for this match.
Collins continued, “We’ve consistently shown respect to our opponents in terms of preparation, and we are doing the same here. Some of our recent away games have been closely contested, with little separating the teams, and we anticipate a similar scenario this weekend. We hope to leverage our quality and organization to secure a favorable outcome, which would be quite an achievement.”
He also mentioned, “I observed Leyton Orient’s victory at Carlisle last week, and they are on an impressive winning streak, proving to be a tough side to beat. They have an excellent manager who emphasizes attractive football. This match is shaping up to be one of our most significant challenges this season.”
