Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut has expressed his dissatisfaction with the effort of Ireland striker Callum Robinson, emphasizing that Robinson needs to increase his work rate and contribute more to the team to secure a spot in the starting lineup. Although Robinson recently scored for Ireland in a Euro qualifying win against Gibraltar after coming off the bench, he has yet to start a game for Cardiff City this season, making seven substitute appearances and failing to score. Bulut clarified that Robinson remains part of his plans but stressed the importance of greater dedication from both Robinson and teammate Rubin Colwill.
Bulut highlighted that football is not solely about scoring goals and attacking play, as players also need to contribute without the ball. He expressed his concerns about some players not working effectively when the team doesn’t have possession. He expects all players to put in the effort, as having just ten committed players on the field is not sufficient for the team’s success. Bulut emphasized the need for teamwork and the collective effort of all eleven players.
Regarding Callum O’Dowda, who has been sidelined with a calf injury since August, Bulut confirmed that O’Dowda won’t be fit for the November international window. He anticipates O’Dowda’s return will likely be closer to the New Year, possibly by the end of December.
